Locking device
The locking device for the axial positioning of the precision bearings on the shaft must be made very precisely. With the conventional lock washer lock nuts not entirely suitable for precision bearings, because the thread and the support surfaces have relatively large manufacturing tolerances, may lead to the axial deformation and the rotation axis changes. The locking nut of the precision bearing provides a uniform support on the entire circumference of the inner ring to prevent shaft deformation (especially in the case of heavy pre compliance). They should also be easy to install and disassemble. In order to meet the technical and economic requirements of the high application of machine tools, thinking Ford Motor Co developed a cost-effective precision locking nut.


A variety of different designs
Thinking Ford Motor Co produces multiple types of precision locking nuts with locking pins. Two types are listed: type R and type F. Using these two nuts, bearings and other components can be simply and reliably positioned on the shaft and ensured precision. The special feature is that there are three evenly distributed phosphor bronze locking pins. These pins are pressed on the shaft thread through the six corners flat headed screw to prevent the nut from turning. The installation and design are simple. There is no need for additional locking washers or slots in the shaft. The angle between the locking pin and the flat head screw and the axis is the same as that of the thread. At the end of the lock pin and screw thread processing in one procedure, and thus has a screw thread, nut completely through the friction between the friction and adhesion of thread surface between the lock pin and shaft thread locking in place. Therefore, the locking pin does not bear the axial load acting on the nut. When the nut is locked, the screw surface will not release the axial load, and the nut will not deform (Fig. 1). Another advantage of F nuts is that they can be adjusted. Type R and F type lock nuts are easy to install. There are slots around, and different types of wrenches can be chosen according to the size of the application and nut, including hook and Impact Wrenches (Figure 3). The nut shall be slightly fastened to the end screw until the thread of the locking pin fits with the shaft thread. Then tighten the flat headed screws evenly and alternately until the tightening torque listed in the product table is reached. The alignment between the supporting surface of the thread and the adjacent elements must be corrected,First, loosen the flat headed screw at the maximum deviation position and tighten the other two screws to the same level. Then loosen the loosened screws. If this correction is not enough, the program should be repeated until the required accuracy.

When removing the R and F type locking nuts, remember that the locking pin is still aligned with the thread even after the flat head screws have been loosened. The pan head screws with a rubber hammer tap near the nut and the locking pin can be loose, then you can easily unscrew nuts from the shaft thread.
